DB2

Database 2 (DB2), introduced by IBM (International Business Machine), is a family of RDBMS software products. The open database environment of DB2 allows you to run it on numerous computing platforms. To obtain and view all the records saved in DB2 database components, SQL (Structured Query Language) and XQuery are used. The size of the DB2 database may differ from large multi-user system to single-user system.

The extension for every DB2 database is ".db2." The database is one of the most dependable databases used world-wide due to its high security features. There are varied editions and versions of DB2 that run on different types of devices ranging from handhelds to mainframes. However, most often the term DB2 refers to the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition that runs on Linux, UNIX (AIX), or Windows operating systems.

Two ways to administer DB2 are command line interface and GUI (Graphical User Interface). While the command line interface can be easily automated and scripted, and requires wide knowledge of the product, it is not recommended for new database users. The GUI, on the other hand, is a multi-platform Java client and can be easily used by new users.
